To make some good ole tasty, here are the ingredients you will need.
Ingredients:

8 tablespoons (1 stick/4 oz./113g) butter, at room temperature
3 cups confectioners’ (icing) sugar, sifted
3 to 5 tablespoons milk (whole, 2% milk is recommended, but you can use the milk you prefer)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Food coloring, only if you would like to change the color of the frosting
Instructions:
1. Put the butter in a large mixing bowl. Use an electric mixer and blend on low speed until it becomes fluffy, usually takes about 30 seconds. Stop the electric mixer and add the confectioners’ sugar, 3 tablespoons of the milk, and the pure vanilla extract.
2. Using the electric mixer, blend on low speed until the sugar is mixed in well, usually takes about 1 minute. Increase the speed to medium and beat until light and fluffy, 1 minute more. If the frosting seems too stiff, you can add up to 1 tablespoon more milk.

Remember this can be made as a soft or a stiff frosting. You will use the stiffer frosting for decorations and such. The stiffer buttercream has much higher sugar content. Color paste is a better option for coloring. This is especially true for maintaining a stiffer frosting. Use minimal cream additions as well if you want to keep the frosting stiff. You can use this on any kind of cake, adding chocolate or a number of other flavors. Buttercream frosting is a fantastic choice for cupcakes, and it is a hit at birthday parties for kids.
